ARe – Your Budapest experience

“I want to make you get acquainted with the city – the houses are the most important, I think. Perhaps not even the houses, but the erotic of streets leaning on each other, sometimes expressing power and other times grace, maybe the heat of traffic, the climate conditions of squares and statues, the literary associations related to bus line numbers, or something like that” – writes Antal Szerb in his volume titled “A Martian’s Guide to Budapest”. It’s true, it is not easy to capture the essence of a city and present it to a tourist or to anyone really, since there are so many aspects that need and have to be taken into account. On top of that, every individual may find differing things interesting: we notice a building, restaurant or a stumbling stone or figures decorating a façade based on different places and a different system.

Wouldn’t it be nice if when we find something beautiful while walking, we could direct our phones or tablets to it and obtain accurate information about its origins, the person who prepared it and its story? We have great news! With ARe, this is not a dream anymore. From now on, we can learn the extraordinary stories hidden behind the surface with ease and in an experience-like manner!

Much more than an app

ARe is a location-based experience: it grabs the users’ attention and informs them in an entertaining way. The outstanding service provides unique digital content with the help of augmented reality, which is only available at the given location. The WOW effect is caused by the connection of offline and online spaces in excess of visuality: “it is not there, and yet it is there.” And all we need for this is our mobile phone or tablet (right at our hands anyway), and the adventure can begin!

With the help of ARe, “free scanning” in the city becomes possible. Soon we will be able to scan almost everything complemented with relevant content interesting for everyone, so that Budapest could “open up” to those open to explore the world even more.

Your smartest friend

ARe is, essentially, a customizable online guide built on urbanism, offering numerous opportunities and important information. Besides learning what is hidden behind a captivating façade of a tenement house, or what there is to know about the lions of the Chain Bridge, you will get tips about where the best cafés and coolest restaurants of the city are, and you can also get to know the most important players of the design scene of Budapest. Are is your smartest friend.

It allows you to go on exciting tours, the stops of which only depend on you. There are no guided tours, nothing is compulsory. You can explore the city in your own rhythm, based on your own interests, on foot, with a scooter or a bike, regardless of the weather or the time of day, so that it can be truly Your Budapest experience!

ARe – intuitive and interactive user interface right at the border of our virtual and real world

Up until now, only pilot projects of varying size and pop-up type of solutions have been brought to life in relation to augmented reality (AR), which were mostly campaigns tied either to time or space. As its development requires specific knowledge (having a degree or experience in general program development is not enough), finding the link between AR development, users and the market was not easy for a long time. This is a global issue, since as opposed to VR, which was a hit on the game development and telephone market almost immediately, AR is still in its infancy, especially in the EU.

Each year brings new prophecies about when the use of AR will become a mass market application, not only in the entertainment market but also in business life. The technological background is developing on a continuous basis, ideas that have been tried before are coming back in ever newer versions in better quality, this way promoting more and more experience-like use. This is what happened to the application previously known as AR city Budapest and debuting today as ARe, available in Hungarian and English languages, presenting more than 50 locations in Budapest in a playful and interactive manner.

Although this field of the market has become more and more competitive recently, ARe offers many advantages in opposition to its competitors: it is hyperlocal, which means that it takes you to places you won’t find on tourist routes; it displays the online content with advanced accuracy; it tells a story about the particular AR locations, this way, the user can engage with the experience offered by the application even more; users can explore the city without the need of constantly checking their phone  – they are present in the moment, they observe and experience; and, last, but not least, the app does not collect or store any personal data.

It is important that ARe does not target and advertise based on data; it informs in a playful manner while increasing engagement – then, with the help of quality data, it is/will be possible to create more specific campaigns.

Besides all of this, the best feature of the app is that the target audience engages in the activity voluntarily so that they can get the unique digital content and the newest and most important information – either in relation to a product or another service – this way, the “design” itself carries the marketing message…

The ARe service will soon be available in Berlin and London!
